My grandfather’s house (corrected)
It’s probably never going to be good news when your relatives send you an article about your grandfather’s house entitled “City demolishes another eyesore.”Both my grandparents have been dead for about 20 years, and during the interim the house was turned into a six-unit apartment building. I remember it as being a very “German” house, with everything well-ordered and plenty of clocks and woodwork.
It turns out this is the building next door. I lived there briefly as an infant, while my parents were waiting for a house to be built about 10 miles away. I remember walking around in the hole that was to be the basement of the house, but not the apartment building.
Here’s the article(click on the thumbnail for the full version):

The house in question is the one in the upper picture, in downtown Binghamton, New York.

Kitchen progress again
Here’s today’s progress on the kitchen repair project. I cut two boards that collectively will replace the missing shelf, in order to fit in the odd-shaped space. It should be adequately strong—it rests on a shelf of tiles in the back and I’ll screw them into the outside in the front (and then cover the screwholes).
Here’s what it looks like installed.
Tomorrow I go to Los Angeles, so no progress for a while.
