Obama in Michigan

Yesterday we went to the Barack Obama fundraiser in the Renaissance Center in Detroit. There were about 500 people there, I’d guess, so it was a pretty good haul of money for the companion. We’d never done anything like this before, and the same was true of nearly everyone with whom we spoke. I hadn’t realized that Al Gore would be there, so that was a nice surprise. There were also quite a few Michigan politicians—the governor, Jennifer Granholm, and several congressman including John Conyers. Al Gore said a few words and then Barack Obama gave a shorter version of his speech, replete with local references. We got to shake his hand afterward—the photo below was my attempt to take a picture while he shook my wife’s hand.
