Beijing Dialect,locally known as Beijinghua, is somewhat akin to Parisian French in that it quickly becomes very dear to those who hear it often!As an old Bostonian I see parallels there too!
There are some fears that the Beijing variety may be withering on the vine. While Beijing Dialect is the model for the pronunciation of the National kind of Chinese—-Putunghua,or Mandarin,it abounds in a myriad of other expressions deemed too local for the wider world.
I am delighted to note,of late,that there is an energetic effort to protect the Beijing Dialect from extinction! I wish it great success!!
