New uses for old textbooks.

Somehow I don’t think Sony is too worried, but a candidate for State Superintendent of Schools in Oklahoma has figured out what books are good for.

Key quote: “There are some rifles not even Webster’s Dictionary will stop.”

Reminds me of an experience I had when I was learning to give IQ tests in graduate school. One item asked children to come up with ways in which a paperback book is better than a hardcover book. The student I asked pointed out that it would be preferable to be hit by a paperback than a hardcover, a response that raised all sorts of questions in my mind. Further experience revealed that this is/was a very common response among elementary school students. And one that was apparently prescient. Don’t miss the video here.
