What a difference a year makes

Arnold2

A year ago on this date, I was in Ann Arbor negotiating my move to the University of Michigan. During that time, I’ve

  • – been to China twice

  • – been to Europe twice, visiting colleagues in Berlin and Amsterdam and then visiting my daughter in Crete

  • - moved to Ann Arbor, selling a house and buying another, and

  • - set up life at the University of Michigan
  • I’ve gotten very little writing done during that time (some things don’t change, I guess), although I have kept the summer free to finally get some things finished.

Meanwhile, my wife has settled on her career plans, joining a residency in preventive medicine at the University of Michigan, to start in the Fall. In the meantime, she’s down in Bolivia, working on her Spanish.

I’m back in Champaign now, to see my dentist and, hopefully, finish making arrangements about transferring grants and equipment. I have a sense that Arnold Beckman, whose institute housed my lab, would approve of the move.

The blue and maize work well with his bronzed look.

Kevin, you put Arnold’s head into your hat.
Although we usually talk about shoes, hat
      should work well too. :)
