RSS OPML and me

Oskar van Rijswijk has a great collection of OPML files on his site. Just browse his OPML directory in FeedDemon, then click any of the OPML links to create a new FeedDemon channel group.

Up until the words “up until the words,” this posting was generated from a program called FeedDemon, which is a slick RSS (Really Simple Syndication) reading program for Windows (not free, though) that I’m trying out. Such programs harvest links to websites of interest. This one generates a slick looking “newspaper” for each channel full of sites, and has an option to generate a weblog entry in your own site for an article of interest.

The WWW revolution started with the Mosaic browser is transformative, but it is also very labor-intensive. RSS-aggregators such as FeedDemon may help reduce the amount of human foraging involved in keeping up with streams of information. Or so I hope.

OPML stands for “Outline Processor Markup Language,” which seems to be used for maintaining lists of sites with RSS feeds.
